Origin: PG [a word of Pre-Greek origin]
Etymology: Ending as in ἰάλεμος (s. v.), further unclear foreign word; on the phonetics Schwyzer 302 and Björck Alpha impurum 46 and 258, who thinks of an onomatopoetic κο-. Clearly a Pre-Greek word, with the phoneme kʷ-? Cf. καυαλός μωρολόγος H., and κόαλοι βάρβαροι H. S. also on κόβαλος.
